The French Scientific Committee on Desertification (CSFD) was established in September 1997 to meet the threefold concern of the ministries in charge of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification: To mobilize the competent French scientific community in terms of desertification, land degradation and the development of arid, semi-arid and sub-humid regions. The aim is to create knowledge and act as a guide and advisor to policy-makers and actors involved in the combat; to strengthen the position of this community at the international level; and to contribute to disseminating and exploiting scientific knowledge.
