The Horqin Project is a large-scale tree planting initiative designed to reverse massive desertification. Due to its rich water and grass resources, Horqin was once called the Horqin Pasture. Overgrazing of the land led to desertification, and the Horqin Pasture gradually turned into the Horqin Desert, resulting in terrible sandstorms that sweep across China and neighboring countries:
